Vintage Style Child Portraits

A few more fine art style portraits to share…

These first two feel very 1920’s to me.   What do you think?

This one with the dirndl skirt makes me smile.  Mostly because when you’re a girl who grew up in a German family, wearing a dirndl skirt at some point in your childhood is like a rite of passage.  Raena’s mom Susan and I have often laughed about similar experiences growing up – things like music by Heintje at Christmas, coffee milk, and dirndls.  Welcome to the club Raena!

Fine Art Child Portraiture

I don’t think I’ve been as excited nor as nervous about sharing photographs in awhile, as I am about sharing the ones in this blog post!

In recent weeks, I’ve been on a journey to push myself artistically with the images that I create.

For awhile I’ve been drawn to photographs that have an artistic, painterly sense about them.  I’ve had a lot of ideas percolating in my mind for a long time, and my technical and artistic abilities have finally all lined up in order for me to create the images that exist in my mind’s eye.

It was sheer enjoyment, photographing soulful little Raena, and then playing around to create the final images.

Honestly, it made my heart sing!

I want to keep creating work like this, of both adults and children.  To that end, if you would be interested in being a model for images like this, please contact me at teresa@teresarehmann.com, and I will let you know some further details!

Great work Teresa, These pictures are stunning! I love how you used the textures and light to add the vintage/artsy feel to it all.

Elegant Business Headshots in Calgary

Recently, Lisa braved the snow and cold to have some updated headshots taken for her business!

For a lot of people, the idea of getting a new portrait taken ranks about as fun as getting teeth pulled.

However, in our increasingly visual digital world, like it or not, your profile portrait sends a message about you to the world.  This is particularly true if you are a small business owner, or even if you are looking for a new job.

Taking the time to have a professional portrait done, to capture the image and personality you want to convey to the world, is worth the investment.

Lisa provides event planning services through her business, Candy Consulting, and she also runs workshops to help support DIY in-house event planners.  I spoke about photography at her last Candy Academy event, and even though I am not an event planner, I learned lots of little valuable tips that apply to my own business.  Her next event on “Marketing Secrets for Event Success” will be on Saturday January 4th – it will definitely be worthwhile to attend if you want to learn more about effective marketing!

One of Lisa’s values for her business and life is about having fun and enjoying the process – and I think these portraits truly convey her warm and enthusiastic spirit!

Summer Photo Fun in the Early Evening Sun!

Looking outside my window, at the white drifts, it seems hard to believe that these photos were taken not that long ago.  The bleakness of winter is beautiful in its own way, but the vibrant greens of summer are here for all too short a time.

I don’t often associate the town Drumheller with vibrant greenery, but there are some pretty parks along the Red Deer River.  That’s where Brad, Shar, Cassia and Carys chose to have their family photography session late in the summer.

Thanks for a fun time!

Fog and Pumpkins!

The flight attendant’s voice came over the intercom as we taxied down the runway in Vancouver.

“Welcome aboard your Air Canada flight to Grande Prairie.”

GRANDE PRAIRIE?

I was supposed to be on a flight to Prince George to visit my brother, sister-in-law, and two little nephews.  The flight attendant continued to tell us that the fog in Prince George was so bad that they had to cancel a flight that morning, but the pilot thought we’d just go and “take a look”.  Because the fog in Vancouver was pretty bad as well, Plan B was to continue on to Grande Prairie.

As the wheels touched the runway of a very foggy Prince George runway, I was so thankful that we made it – even more so later in the weekend when I heard about additional flights out of Vancouver being cancelled!

Although the fog was disruptive for travel in BC a couple weeks ago, the soft lighting of the morning fog made for incredible colours in these photographs of my nephews in a pumpkin patch!

I couldn’t get Aaron to look at the camera for me.  That’s because there was a quad hauling pumpkins around the field.  Auntie vs quad?  The quad won.  This round anyways!

Happy National Cat Day! (and headshots mini-session info!)

About a year ago, a new little one entered our lives.

Yup, the cat.  Her name is Minky.

Neither Cameron or I grew up with pets, and I can’t say that either one of us had a particular fondness for cats.  However, the cat came with the house and so we said to ourselves, “Well, cats are pretty low maintenance animals.  We can tolerate the cat.”

I don’t think either one of us anticipated quite how much Minky and her affectionate personality would worm her way into our hearts.

I took this portrait of Cameron and Minky last night, not realizing that apparently somebody designated October 29 as National Cat Day!

This portrait was taken with my new studio light setup, which is perfect for classic portraits like this one.

The studio setup is why I’m looking forward to teaming up with Lisa Gareau of Candy Consulting to offer headshot mini-sessions on November 16!

If your “professional” headshot is currently a few years out of date, or if you’re using a poorly lit iPhone snapshot as your profile picture, this is the perfect opportunity to polish up your image for Facebook, LinkedIn, or your business website!

The mini-session includes 3 digital photos, with clothing changes included if you want to convey both a formal and a more casual mood.  This session has a $250 value, and it only costs $80, with coffee and refreshments included!  There are limited spots, so if you’re interested, make sure to sign up ASAP!

Click here for more information and to sign up today!
